Cross Country Team Strong in Fresno

Amador Valley’s cross-country team had a strong performance at the McDonald’s Roughrider Invitational meet on October 16th. The varsity boys’ squad finish second out of 24 large schools, while the girls came in third out of 16 large schools.
The Roughrider Invitational is run on a 5000 meter course at Woodward Park in Fresno. The course is also home to the California State Cross Country Championship, so it provides a good late season test for teams aspiring for the state meet.
Varsity Boys: The varsity boys were led by senior captain Kellen Cole who finished 15th out of 181 harriers in the large school race. The Dons demonstrated outstanding team running with the next four runners finishing in the top 30. Sam Aceret took 19th place, Taylor Peissner grabbed 22nd place, Joe Aceret finished 28th place, and Connor McCarthy completed the scoring for the Dons by racing to 30th place. Theo Carter, Jacob Schlacte, Prescott Jackson, and Chase Hooper were some of the other competitors for the Amador Valley varsity.
Varsity Girls: In the girls’ varsity race, freshman Jenna Pianin led the way for the Dons with an impressive 7th place finish out of 145 competitors. Also scoring for Amador Valley were Jessica Infald (12th), Paige Lommerin (16th), Melinda Huerta (23rd), and Maddie Quinn (28th). Kaitlyn Melo, Madison McCarthy, Lisa Grau, Nicole McDaniel, Katie Girvan, Katrina Paraskevopoulos, Hannah McClintock, and Margaret Duffy also competed for the varsity.
JV Boys: Chris Pocs (13th), Roman Berenshteun (25th), Alec Elgood (35th), Austin Kim (41st), and Keith Deland (46th) led the Amador Valley JV squad to a 3rd place finish out of 13 teams.
Frosh/Soph Boys: Dan Arthur (4th), Kevin Huey (8th), Blane Infald (15th), Noah Sluss (19th), and Brendon Chui (30th) teamed up to lead the Dons to a second place finish out of 11 schools. Steven Rice, Jeff Chen, Mike Alt, Neal Mankins, and Jay Shasma also competed for the Dons.
Frosh/Soph Girls: Emily Staker (6th), Lauren Petzig (10th), Jennifer Phillipe (13th), Swethaa Manickam (20th) helped the Dons to a second place finish. Caroline Fiegel and Patti Matus also ran for the Dons.
