Dons Show Improvement at 2nd EBAL Meet

Amador Valley
The Dons’ cross country team battled in their second East Bay Athletic League meet, with both the boys’ and girls’ varsity squad showing improvement. The boys’ team finished with a 5-2 record in the meet to run their season record to 9-5 putting them in a 3rd place tie in the EBAL. The girls’ team finished the meet with a 4-3 record putting their season record at 8-6 which also puts them in a third place tie in the EBAL.

The second and final EBAL “center” meet was hosted by Amador Valley at the 3-mile course at Shadow Cliffs on October 21st. The boys and girls varsity races feature 10 harriers from each team, with the top 5 finishers on each squad counting in the score. Sixth and seventh place finishers can also impact the results as they can “push” back the finishing places of top 5 finishers from other schools.

Boys Varsity: The boys finished with the 4th best record in the first center meet, but moved up to 3rd at Shadow Cliffs. San Ramon Valley and De La Salle topped the Dons, but the Amador Valley beat Monte Vista (after finishing behind the Mustangs at the first meet), Livermore, Granada, California, and Foothill. Kellen Cole (10th), Connor McCarthy (18th), Sam Aceret (19th), Taylor Peissner (23rd), and Joe Aceret (27th) were the scoring runners for the Dons. Luke Montgomery, Prescott Jackson, Kyle Stivers, Jacob Schlacte, and Theo Carter also competed for Amador Valley.

Girls Varsity: The girls finished with a 4-3 record in the first center meet. In the second meet, the girls again finished with a 4-3 record, but they were barely beaten by two of the teams: Carondelet beat the Dons by only two points and Monte Vista topped the Dons by a single point. Jenna Pianin (9th), Jessica Infald (11th), Paige Lommerin (12th), Melinda Huerta (21st), Kaitlin Melo (39th) scored for the Dons. Madison McCarthy, Lisa Grau, Nicole McDaniel, Katrina Paraskevopoulos, and Lauren Petzig also raced for the varsity.

Next up for the Dons is the EBAL Championship meet this Saturday at Oakhill Park in Danville. Amador Valley hopes to continue their improvement and move up in the league prior to the NCS Championships.
