Amador Dons fall to the San Ramon Wolves 28 - 13.

Pleasanton, CA – The Amador Dons Freshman Football team lost to the San Ramon Wolves 28 – 13. Turnovers proved once more to be too much to overcome. The offense did put together two impressive drives and the defense continued their strong play.

The San Ramon Wolves started the game with the ball but could not move it against the Dons. Brendon Jenkins and the rest of the Dons defense applied constant pressure and forced the Wolves to punt.

Amador started their first offensive series putting the ball in Sam Peters hands and letting him move it down the field. Sam had a 15 yard pass from Kyle Moreno, a 13 yard run and then followed with a 5 yard run. Unfortunately the offense stalled and the Dons had to punt the ball to end the drive.

The Wolves struck quickly on their next series moving down the field in two plays highlighted by a 32 yard pass to take a 6 – 0 lead. The extra point was good and the Wolves led 7 – 0.

Both defenses settled down for the next couple of series and prevented both offenses from moving the ball. Grant Chin had a tackle for a 2 yard loss to end the 1st quarter with the score still 7 – 0 Wolves.

As the start of the 2nd quarter, the Wolves were forced to punt and the Amador Dons took over. Small yardage runs by Sam Peters, Kyle Moreno and Michael Echavia got the offense warmed up. Kyle Moreno then connected on a nice 27 yard pass to Sam Peters. Justin Cruz followed with a burst on the ground for a 12 yard run. The Wolves defense stepped up and intercepted Kyle Moreno to end the Dons hopes of scoring on the drive.

After a quick defensive stop by the Dons, the Amador offense took the field. Kyle Moreno had a quick 9 yard run and was followed by a 6 yard run from Grant Miller. Kyle Moreno then had a 10 yard run and at the end of the play a Wolves defender had a late hit which added another 15 yards. With the ball at the 11 yard line, Justin Cruz had a 3 yard run and then Kyle Moreno hit Michael Echavia on a 8 yard pass for a touchdown to make the score 7 – 6 Wolves. Josh Pease hit the extra point to tie the game 7 - 7.

The Dons defense led by Michael Echavia and Grant Chin kept the Wolves from scoring on their next offensive series which ended the half with the score tied 7 – 7.

The second half didn’t start well for the Amador Dons as a fumble on the first series ended the drive early. The Wolves thought, turned their first offensive series in the 2nd half into a scoring drive highlighted by a 34 yard pass. After the extra point was made, the Wolves led 14 – 7.

The Dons were up to the challenge of matching the Wolves score and put together an impressive drive the next chance they had the ball. Kyle Moreno started the drive with a 5 yard run and then threw a 16 yard pass to Grant Miller. A 4 yard run by Sam Peters and a 4 yard pass to Grant Miller continued the drive down the field. Sam Peters continued getting his name called with a 4 yard run to give the Dons a first down. Kyle Moreno then went to the air with a couple of passes to Ryan Ibanez and a throw to Michael Echavia. The last pass to Ryan Ibanez got the Dons down to the 1 yard line. Kyle Moreno finished the drive by going 1 yard into the end zone. A missed extra point had the Dons trailing 14 – 13.

That last drive got the Dons pumped up and they recovered the following kickoff due to a fumble by San Ramon. This ended the 3rd quarter with the Dons trailing the Wolves 14 -13.

A little razzle dazzle by the Dons proved costly as a halfback pass resulted in an interception giving the Wolves the ball back.

The Dons defense continued to their strong play and forced the Wolves to punt the ball. The Dons started to attack again with a 9 yard pass from Kyle Moreno to Chase Hennings but another interception put a quick end to this drive.

San Ramon made the Dons pay for the turnover by turning it into 6 points with a nice 25 yard run into the end zone and gave the Wolves a 21 -13 lead after the extra point was made.

The Dons wouldn’t get a chance to add any more points as their next two drives ended quickly with interceptions as Amador needed to go to the air to score quickly. The San Ramon Wolves were able to add another score in-between the last two Amador drives.

Another tough loss for the Dons, but bought sides of the bought fought hard and showed no quit the entire night.
