Third time's the charm...for Monte Vista, that is, as our twice rained out match was finally played against the Mustangs on Monday. It proved to be a tough one for the Lady Dons, as their 1-7 loss gave Monte Vista the honor of being the only team to beat our talented AV JV twice this season.

We may not have come away with the win, but the final score doesn't really tell the story. Monte Vista is a perennial favorite in the EBAL, and our Lady Dons gave them a run for their money on every court.

Our singles matches were played with plenty of determination. Captain Sibley Silcox, in the #1 spot, fearlessly faced Monte Vista's top player and took many points to duce in her long, tough match. A great leader on and off the courts, Sibley fought hard but was just unable to overcome her opponent, 0-6, 2-6. And Megan Marschall showed true Amador spirit at #2 by agreeing to play her first team singles match although she wasn't feeling up to par, and she impressed everyone with her 2-8 effort.

AV JV doubles teams also found it tough going, but the girls refused to lose without a fight. Captain Chelsea Kerrigan & Caroline Tanonis at #1 doubles faced long rallies and played strong at the net but were unable to get the win, 3-6, 5-7. Alison Kobayashi & Meghana Manne teamed up once again in the #2 spot, exhibiting excellent play on both sides of the net in their 4-6, 5-7 match. Jackie Kartchner & Allison Rowe brought their usual energy and determination to a hard fought match that proved to be challenging both physically and emotionally. Congrats girls on a great showing against a tough opponent, 4-6, 7-6, 10-12 tie-break.

The Mustangs also proved to be too much for the winning combination of Justine Chinn & Sanjana Seth, who played great tennis in their very close match, 3-6, 7-6, 8-10 tie-break. Jonelle Balducci & Claire Williams were almost able to pull off a win with a strong comeback but came up just short, 6-3, 5-7, 5-10 tie-break.

So who came away with the Amador win? Match honors go to Haley Howard & Karly McCloskey for playing some of their best tennis of the season against the Mustangs, walking away with a huge 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 tie-break victory! Not only did they help save face for their AV JV team, but these girls have earned bragging rights for being the only pair to beat Monte Vista in both matches this season! You ladies are truly awesome!!!

It's hard to play that hard against a rival like Monte Vista without feeling disappointed about the loss. It speaks volumes about the character of this Amador team that our girls showed outstanding sportsmanship on and off the courts throughout some difficult situations.

Coaches Helen King and Eileen Sheridan have taught their team well, always leading by example with their positive feedback and sincere encouragement. Thanks so much for all you do, ladies! Your hard work and influence does make a difference, and there's much to be proud of with this year's JV team.

Congrats to everyone for a match well played!

Next up...Amador at Carondelet, Tuesday, October 27th at 4:00 p.m.

Go AV JV!!!
