For the 2nd consecutive year under the leadership of coach Chris Tofanelli, the Amador Valley Dons boys varsity water polo team has finished 4th in EBAL and been seeded 8th in the 2009 Les Schwab Tires/North Coast Section Boys Water Polo Tournament earning them a first round bye. Their first match will be against none other then their arch rival, the Foothill Falcons. Foothill is seeded 9th and has advanced to the second round by beating 24th seed Marin Academy 9 – 7 on Wed, 4 Nov, at Contra Costa College. The game for the undisputed boys’ varsity water polo champion of Pleasanton and advancement to round 3 of the NCS tournament will be held at 5:00PM on Saturday, 7 Nov, at Contra Costa College. So far this 2009 season Foothill beat Amador at Foothill in the last seconds of their first meeting then Amador beat Foothill at Amador by one goal in their last meeting. This upcoming match in neutral water has the making of an epic battle. Neither team has ever advanced to the NCS third round and each sorely wants to claim the Pleasanton water polo crown.
Both teams are very evenly matched. The deciding advantage may come down to how many fans each team can put into the stands and help cheer them on. So mark your calendars and allow at least 1hr of driving time and go see the 2009 Amador Valley Dons boys varsity water polo team make history and advance to the NCS 3rd round! GO DONS!
